Chicago Bulls will pursue Jason Kidd and Steve Nash in Free Agency

Once former NBA MVP Derrick Rose went down with a season-ending knee injury (torn ACL) in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Chicago Bulls were done and they didn’t even know it.

Throughout the majority of the shortened NBA regular season, the Bulls had to deal with constant injury problems with Rose and basically were able to clinch the number one seed in the Eastern Conference without their superstar leading the way. Rose got on the floor from time to time during the season, but he was never really 100% and that was a testament to just how good the Bulls were as a team.

Now that Rose will be out for most of the 2012-12 NBA season, the Bulls have started to consider the future and getting some security at the point guard position. Apparently, one of the biggest targets for Chicago in the offseason is a free agent veteran point guard.

There are a few options for the Bulls to explore this summer in terms of floor generals becoming available via free agency like Raymond Felton, Aaron Brooks, Kirk Hinrich and Deron Williams, but the Bulls are narrowing it down to future Hall of Famers Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.

There’s no doubt that other NBA title contenders around the league in need of a point guard will also be going after these two perennial All-Stars, but the Bulls want to make a serious run at landing one of the two before next season.

The likely of the two players to join the Bulls might be Kidd. With the Dallas Mavericks making Williams their top free agent priority in the offseason, Kidd will take a backseat and that might open the door for Chicago.

Nash isn’t out of the question for Chicago, but they might have stiff competition with plenty of teams already showing interest in the two-time NBA MVP.
