Opening day is a hectic time for the entire league of baseball. Each team wants to win their home opener, but not everyone finds success in trying. However, the Tigers did win their home opener this week. On opening day, the Detroit Tigers successfully triumphed over the Cleveland Indians 5-2. This comes after beating the Kansas City Royals in the opening series of the 2010 MLB season.

The game took place at Comerica Park in front of more than 45,000 fans. Magglio Ordonez and Rick Porcello teamed up to give the Tigers fans something to really cheer about. Ordonez started off by hitting one run and two hits.

Rick Porcello, pitcher for the Tigers, jumped in. He pitched a total of five innings and the other team was only able to get two runs on him from those five innings. He did give up five hits – one of which was given to Travis Hafner as a homerun. Porcello also saw two walks and three strikeouts. Porcello claimed his first win of the 2010 Major League Baseball season.

As for the opposing team, the Indians, David Huff started but did find much support in runs. He pitched a total of six innings, of which he gave up a single run. He had two walks as well as two strikeouts.

The point in the game that really made it clear that the Tigers were going to defeat the Indians was in the fifth inning. Third baseman for the Indians, Jhonny Peralta had a throwing error that successfully cleared all bases for the Tigers.

Today, the Tigers will play against the Indians with two new starts. Jeremy Bonderman is set to start for the Tigers while Mitch Talbot is set to start for the Indians.
