After last season very public feud between head coach Jeff Fisher and quarterback Vince Young, the consensus was that one of the two would no longer be with the Tennessee Titans the following season. Most people believed that since Fisher was the longest tenured head coach in the league that Young would be the first one to go and the Titans would look to draft a quarterback in the 2011 NFL draft. Well, that didn’t happen as Fisher was let go and Young was still around, but the Titans did go with a quarterback in the draft with Jake Locker out of Washington.
With Jake Locker being the future face of the franchise, the Tennessee Titans had their new quarterback, but the fate of Vince Young was still up in the air. Now Young’s fate is sealed as the Titans have officially released the troubled quarterback which makes him a free agent.
Despite all the negative things that have surrounded Vince Young in his short time in Tennessee, the former BCS champion has played very well for the Titans and led them to an impressive 30-18 record in five seasons with the team. Even though Young’s record speaks for its self, the fact remains that it was time for him to go and with veteran quarterback Matt Hasselback now their new starter the Titans will be moving right along with Vince Young.
Now that Vince Young is officially a free agent, the former Texas Longhorn looks like he might have a few options and one of them being with the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup to superstar Michael Vick. So far the Eagles seem to be the most interested team in retaining Young’s services, but that could change if teams like the Seattle Seahawks and the Miami Dolphins aren’t satisfied with their current quarterback situation.
