The Chris Johnson watch in Tennessee is officially over after the three-time Pro Bowl running back has signed a four-year contract extension with the Tennessee Titans worth $53 million dollars. Along with becoming the highest paid running back in the NFL after signing this four-year deal with the Titans, Chris Johnson will also become a very rich man regardless of whether or not things work out in Tennessee with the Titans giving him $30 million guaranteed.
This contract extension comes just at the right time for the Tennessee Titans as it looked like things weren’t going well in contract negotiations with Chris Johnson and the team might have been forced to trade the superstar running back at some point in the NFL regular season. Fortunately, things didn’t get that drastic as the Titans were able to get Johnson to agree to a deal that will pay him what he wanted at $13 million per season.
It remains to be seen whether or not Chris Johnson will be worth the enormous contract extension he has just signed, but the Tennessee Titans seem to be confident that they have made the right move and have locked up arguably one of the best running backs in the NFL for at least the next four years.
This season should be a tough one for the Tennessee Titans as they will be breaking in a new starting quarterback in Matt Hasselback and will be trying to bring along a rookie gunslinger in Jake Locker. With the competition in the AFC South division only getting better now that the Houston Texans have become a force to be reckoned with, this year could be extremely tough for the Tennessee Titans and the beginning of what could be rebuilding process around Chris Johnson and Jake Locker.
