Coming into Sunday’s showdown between the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks, the matchup everyone was waiting to see was rookie sensation Robert Griffin III going up against the lowdown defense of the Seahawks.

Although Griffin clearly hasn’t been the same player since going down with a knee injury in the overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens a few weeks ago, the Baylor product has still been able to do enough in the past weeks to lead the Redskins to an NFC East division title and clinch a playoff berth for Washington as a result.

With seven straight wins heading into this matchup, the Redskins were confident they could extend their season with Griffin becoming more of a pocket passer and fellow rookie Alfred Morris shouldering the ground game coming out of the backfield. Even though the Redskins led for the majority of the contest, the Seahawks were clearly in control in the second half with Griffin showing signs of not being able to compete at the same level due to his lingering knee injury.

Unfortunately for Washington, the injury became too much for Griffin to overcome on Sunday with a bad snap causing a fumble in the backfield forcing the rookie to re-injury his knee in a gruesome fashion that ultimately forced him out of the game.

Without Griffin on the field, the Redskins were basically no match for the Seahawks as Seattle dominated the rest of the contest and ultimately advanced to the next round of the playoffs. Griffin was sent to the locker room to tend to his knee and has awaited the results of an MRI ever since.

As a result of Griffin’s gruesome knee injury, the rookie suffered an LCL tear as well as an ACL tear.

Needless to say, the injury may turn out to be costly for Griffin and the Redskins with a potentially long rehabilitation process following surgery to repair the torn ligaments.
