The Jacksonville Jaguars is a team dealing with a rather big dilemma heading into the 2012 NFL regular season. Even though the Jaguars were able to upgrade the receiving corps by drafting Justin Blackmon to help second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert, Jacksonville might have to cut their ties with arguably the team’s best player in running back Maurice Jones-Drew.
With Jones-Drew attempting to secure his long-term future with the Jaguars, the perennial Pro Bowl running back is asking for a considerable boost in pay in order to be paid around the same amount as other elite backs like Chris Johnson, Arian Foster and Adrian Peterson.
Unfortunately, the Jaguars have been reluctant to ink a new deal with Jones-Drew and that has forced the running back to consider other options. Apparently, Jones-Drew is so frustrated with the process that he’d consider a trade.
Obviously, with a talent like Jones-Drew available, the phones in the Jaguars’ front office are going to be ringing off the hook with teams looking to acquire the Pro Bowler. It remains to be seen whether or not the Jaguars are hearing anything that sparks their interest, but one trade scenario might be worth exploring.
The New York Jets situation at quarterback right now is complicated. Mark Sanchez is the starter and there’s no denying that, but Tim Tebow attracts so much attention that there’s no denying that either. With that being the case, the Jets would be wise to consider sending Tebow to the native Florida along with running back Shonn Greene in exchange for Jones-Drew.
There’s no question that both teams would come out on top if this trade were able to come to fruition. The Jets would have a Pro Bowl caliber back and the Jaguars would finally have a player to draw the crowds with a hometown hero filling the seats every week.
This is only an option at this point in time, but it would be intriguing if these two teams were able to pull it off.
