Heading into last season, the Philadelphia Eagles were the team to beat in the NFL with all sorts of Pro Bowl talent added the roster. Not only were the Eagles dubbed the “Dream Team,” but they also appeared to be legitimate Super Bowl title contenders with arguably one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league under center.
Unfortunately, things never panned out for the Eagles as the suffered multiple injuries to key contributors on both sides of the football and ultimately missed the playoffs altogether.
As arguably the biggest disappointment of last season, it was uncertain whether or not the team would be able to bounce back or contend for a title with Michael Vick taking the snaps. There’s no question that Vick is an incredibly talented gunslinger, but his injury problems of the past have come back to haunt him and the Eagles organization.
Coming into the NFL preseason, Vick attempted to prove that he was ready and able to take on the rigors of a grueling NFL regular season. Despite his best effort, Vick was knocked out of both of the first two preseason games and shed a lot of doubt on whether or not he’d be able to lead this team during the 16-game schedule.
Even though it appears that Vick is proving to be injury prone once again, Eagles Coach Andy Reid is sticking by his starting quarterback claiming that he’ll be under center for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.
With rookie Nick Foles making a profound impression on the Eagles’ coaching staff throughout the preseason thus far, it appears that Vick has a viable backup and might be replaced if he continues to struggle with injuries moving forward.
Needless to say, the pressure will be on for Vick as the regular season opener approaching.
