NFL Power Rankings Week 9: 49ers climb to #2

#1 Green Bay Packers (7-0)

The defending Super Bowl champion cheese heads were able to get some rest during the bye week in order to prepare for the second half of the NFL regular season, but even though they didn’t get on the field in Week 8 they were able to continue to hold a tight grip on the number one spot in the NFL power rankings.

#2 San Francisco 49ers (6-1)

The San Francisco 49ers made the biggest jump after Week 8 as they have been able to get off to a surprising 6-1 start of the season after beating the Cleveland Browns in convincing fashion, 20-10.

Next week should be more of the same for Jim Harbaugh’s squad with the division-leading San Francisco 49ers taking on the struggling Washington Redskins. As long as the 49ers continue to play well on offense to compliment the defense, the sky is the limit for this up-and-coming team in the NFC West.

#3 Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)

The Week 8 win over the New England Patriots was a statement game for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they officially let the rest of the league know that they are for real once again this season. The defense is back to form and the offense is much improved with Big Ben and wide receiver Mike Wallace becoming a lethal combination.

#4 Baltimore Ravens (5-2)

Over the last two weeks, the Baltimore Ravens have been challenged against lesser opponents and given a bit of a wakeup call. The offense has taken the brunt of the blame for the Ravens recent struggles, but at least they were able to get back on track in Week 8 with a win over the Arizona Cardinals.

#5 New England Patriots (5-2)

From #2 to #5, the New England Patriots fell further than any team in the NFL power rankings after a bad loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots will almost certainly rebound from this loss, but if they don’t step it up on defense they might not be able to contend with the best of the best in the AFC Conference from here on out.
