The AFC East division has been a two-team division for a very long time with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets pretty much being the only teams within the division that could compete for the AFC East title, but this season things are a changing in the division with the Buffalo Bills bursting onto the scene with three straight wins to start the season.
The Buffalo Bills got off to a hot start this season by getting an impressive win over the defending AFC West division champion Kansas City Chiefs. After putting up 41 points on the Chiefs and holding Jamaal Charles and company to just seven points in the season opener, the Bills were considered to be a much improved team, but the win could have been a fluke.
In Week 2, the Buffalo Bills put on another offensive showcase in a come-from-behind victory against the Oakland Raiders. Even though the Raiders are a much improved team that could be playoff bound this season, most people still weren’t buying in to this resurgence by Ryan Fitzpatrick and company until they beat the division rival New England Patriots in Week 3.
Coming into Week 3, the New England Patriots were considered to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender and arguably the best team in the league behind the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. With that being said, the consensus was that the Bills would be headed to their first loss, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.
Not only did the Buffalo Bills force NFL MVP candidate quarterback Tom Brady to throw a career-high four interceptions, but they proved that this season they are a legitimate force to be reckoned with by claiming first place in the AFC East after beating the New England Patriots (34-31) and improving their record to a perfect 3-0.
It will be interesting to see if Ryan Fitzpatrick and his boys can keep up this momentum, but as of right now they look like the real deal and ready to make a run at the playoffs and the AFC East division title.
