Coming into Super Bowl XLVII, the San Francisco 49ers were four-point favorites to come out on top and win the sixth Super Bowl title in franchise history. The 49ers being favored was no surprise with the way they had played leading up to the big game in New Orleans and seemingly being the better team on both sides of the football in comparison to the Baltimore Ravens, but the outcome wasn’t what was intended by San Francisco with Baltimore coming out on top, 34-31.

The final score doesn’t really give the Ravens much credit for the dominant display in the first half of the game. Baltimore basically had the game in hand from start to finish getting out to a 28-6 lead over San Francisco and dominating the competition on both sides of the football.

The Ravens figured out a way to make second-quarterback Colin Kaepernick ineffective and get the better of the one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL led by veteran Patrick Willis.

Needless to say, the Ravens appeared to have figured out the 49ers before Jim Harbaugh’s squad could even react and as a result the game was heading towards a blowout before the lights went out at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday.

With quite a few controversial calls during the game, running back Frank Gore of the 49ers believes that San Francisco is and was the better team. A few calls towards the end of the Super Bowl, especially a no-call for passing interference in the end zone, seemed to ultimately tip the scales in favor of the Ravens leading the team led by Ray Lewis to win a second Super Bowl title in franchise history.

Although controversy continues to swirl, the Ravens were victorious and the rest is history.
