Dozens of people were injured in the explosion at a night-time market, although the cause of the blast is so far unknown.

The explosion occurred at the Roxas Night Market in Davao City, the hometown of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, just outside the Ateneo de Davao University before 11 p.m. tonight.

Around 900 suspected drug traffickers have been killed since Mr Duterte took office.

Davao is located in Mindanao, a large southern island beset by decades of Muslim insurgency.
