Burns tried to cop pleas about the tweet on MSNBC, and failed by trying to talk about everything else but the offensive picture.

This heated conversation didn't quell the controversy of Burns' tweet, so he made a decision to issue a late-night apology on Periscope. "The message I stand by, the methodology I do not". He stands by the tweet's message and "what the image represents".

The deleted Tweet mocked the Democratic candidate's outreach to black voters, saying: "Thank you for your votes and letting me use you again".

The use of blackface, widely seen as offensive, as well as statements that appear to stereotype African-American people were problematic enough for Burns that he ended up having to defend himself and the tweet on MSNBC.

As Burns was provoking the blackface brouhaha, CNN was dealing with an ethical morass over Trump surrogate Corey Lewandowski, whom CNN put on contract as a commentator after he was ousted as Trump's campaign manager. It was showing how Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party panders after the black vote.

"My initial tweet was to reinforce my position as to point out why this particular candidate Hillary Clinton is not really good for the African-American community, because the Democratic Party automatically assumes they own the black vote".

"I ain't no ways exhausted of pandering to African Americans", the text next to Clinton reads.

"Pastor Burns' tweet is emblematic of the hateful actions and rhetoric coming out of the Trump campaign this presidential cycle". There's also Trump's attack on Mexican-American Judge Curiel, and his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the USA, among other concerns.

She's also had major support from key African-American politicians. During recent rallies, he has said "what do you have to lose" when courting black and Hispanic voters.

After a spirited attempt to defend the image during an interview on MSNBC, Burns removed the tweet and turned to Periscope to apologize for his "Twit that many found to be offensive" saying that "The tweet was not created to anger or stir up the pot like it did".
