Penn State To Honor Joe Paterno Before Temple Game

02 September 2025

Paterno, as part of the NCAA sanctions given to the Nittany Lions, was forced to vacate all of his wins from 1998 to 2011.

Grassroots Penn State alumni and supporters group Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship used the announcement as an opportunity to call on the university to do more regarding the late coach.

This commemoration will take place before and throughout Penn State's game against Temple.

Penn State will honor former head football coach Joe Paterno before their game against Temple University of September 17, according to a new promotional schedule released by the university's athletic department on Thursday.

It's the first time Paterno will be acknowledged in Beaver Stadium since he walked out for the last time on October 29, 2011.

Rooney confirms retirement after World Cup
One player who might find Rooney's elevation frustrating is Tottenham's Dele Alli. We've lost one in about 14, 15 qualifiers and we're not that far away".

PS4RS has been critical of the university's handling of the situation, from the firing of Paterno to the contracting of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Louis Freeh to investigate the Sandusky scandal to the consent decree with the NCAA that led to historic penalties.

Paterno was sacked during the aftermath of the scandal in November of 2011, and he died at age 85 a few months later.

Paterno was sacked in the midst of an investigation into his longtime assistant, Jerry Sandusky, who was found guilty of sexually abusing 10 children, using his position as a Penn State football coach to lure many of his victims, and even the school's facilities for some of those encounters.

Documents unsealed in July also indicate further evidence that Penn State officials knew of the allegations against Sandusky in the 1970s and 80s and still did not report it.

The Lions and Owls will kick off at noon.
