Donald Trump Still Amazingly Insists He Might Soften Immigration Position

02 September 2025

Trump was all zing and zap, emphasizing from the very beginning that he would build a wall, a physical wall, a big lovely impenetrable wall "with above and below ground sensors", to secure the nation's southern border.

"Trump didn't say it, but most Republican immigration hawks would interpret that to mean that some sort of legal status would lie in the future for those illegal immigrants who wait for years until enforcement is fully enacted", writes the right-leaning columnist Byron York of the Washington Examiner.

Trump talked about limiting immigration to its historic norms.

Clinton begins September with more than $68 million in the bank to use against rival Donald Trump.

Technically, what Trump said Thursday morning does reflect something he said Wednesday evening ― a throwaway remark that fell outside his central theme.

Campaigning in Ohio, Democrat Hillary Clinton jabbed at Trump's Mexican appearance as she promoted her own experience working with foreign leaders as the nation's chief diplomat.

"I can tell you there's a real possibility we will withdraw support from Donald Trump because of that disappointing speech", he said.

"It turns out Trump didn't just choke", said Hillary for America Chairman John Podesta in a statement, "he got beat in the room and lied about it".

Whether Trump was being knowingly dishonest or not, it didn't take long for the Clinton camp to seize on the discrepancy.

Bannon, now called the CEO of the Trump campaign, has been a fan of the hard-line approach on immigration as well as other issues. He called Trump's speech the outline of "a coherent and workable strategy".

What he said was that after his tough enforcement measures are in place, and after, as he put it, "illegal immigration is ended", then the United States can have a discussion about what to do with those undocumented immigrants who chose to ride out his policies and remain in the U.S. during that time.

Trump initially won praise from some after his trip to Mexico City portrayed him in a more presidential manner, speaking alongside Mexico's president about building a cooperative relationship. The words "humane" and "fair" don't either, in this context ― they're too subjective, a feature Trump is exploiting.

Kaine said Wednesday on NBC's "Today" that even if Trump's account is accurate, it showed he "folded under pressure" and "didn't have the backbone" to discuss the issue with the Mexican president. So it was odd that he'd allow Trump to visit without any time to prepare, which could have deepened the impact of the meeting, said Andrew Selee, executive vice president of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

He defied the advice of the US government as adequate arrangements take weeks of planning.

There were no protesters that met Trump's plane when it landed in Mexico City.

"Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation".

Rooney confirms retirement after World Cup
One player who might find Rooney's elevation frustrating is Tottenham's Dele Alli. We've lost one in about 14, 15 qualifiers and we're not that far away".
