Even though the current NBA season isn’t officially over just yet as the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat are still battling it out in the NBA Finals for a chance at an NBA title, a lot of teams around the league have started to make moves in order to improve their franchises for next season and the foreseeable future. Over the past five years or so, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been arguably one of the most talented young team in the MLB. With up-and-coming stars like Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and pitching ace Clanton Kershaw, this team was thought to have a bright future, but no matter what they do the franchise continues to slip back into mediocrity in one of the worst divisions in all of baseball (NL West).
It is still a bit too early to say that all hope is lost for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they do have Kemp and Ethier playing at an extremely high level right now, but they just can’t seem to put the right kind of talent around these two cornerstones in order to turn to the Dodgers back into a winning ball club.
When Manny Ramirez came to town a few years ago, the Dodgers were arguably one of the best teams in baseball as they had their superstar at the plate, some good starting pitchers and talented young players that were coming up. Ever since Manny left, this team has gone into a downward spiral and with the new problems concerning Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, there is no telling what will happen to this team in the future.
One thing seems for certain this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers will not be able to get back into the playoffs as they currently sit in fourth place in the lowly NL West division with a record of 28-33 with the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants atop the division once again (34-26).
Not only are the San Francisco Giants making a case for another NL West division title, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are also playing extremely well right now as they are just one game back of the champs. With that being said, this could be yet another long and disappointing season for the Los Angeles Dodgers out West.
After the Game 3 loss to the Miami Heat, the Dallas Mavericks were deflated as they had another opportunity to close out LeBron James and company in the closing minutes and came up just short with superstar forward Dirk Nowitzki missing a last second shot to tie the game up at 88 apiece. Despite the disappointing loss in Game 3 and the Heat taking the series 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals, the Mavs went into Game 4 with high hopes of tying up the series and continuing their run at an NBA title. Going into Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night in Dallas, Texas, there might be a little animosity between the two leading scorers of the Dallas Mavericks. At the end of Game 3, superstar forward Dirk Nowitzki put the team on his back and scored the last 12 points for the Mavs, but his teammate Jason Terry missed his last four shots and was given the bulk of the blame for Dallas not being able to pull off the second straight comeback.
With time expiring in the fourth quarter of that game, Dirk Nowitzki had an opportunity to tie the game up and send it into overtime. Unfortunately, Nowitzki missed and the Miami Heat won Game 3 and now have a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4.
After the Game 3 loss, Dirk Nowitzki did something completely uncharacteristic and called out his fellow teammate Jason Terry for not being clutch when the team needed him most. This is obviously a statement that can get under a teammate’s skin and that might have happen to Terry after he heard this statement for the team’s undisputed leader.
Whether or not this turn out to be a positive or a negative in Game 4 remains to be seen, but the Dallas Mavericks are definitely in a must win situation here as they do not want to lose one more game on their home floor at American Airlines Center.
If the Mavs are able to get the best of the Heat in Game 4, the series will be tied up at one game apiece and the plot will continue to thicken as the NBA Finals moves forward. This will be a key victory for the Dallas Mavericks as they have to play at least one more game in South Beach and will need to gain some momentum before doing so.
It was recently announced in the Bay Area that former player and commentator Mark Jackson has been named the new head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Despite the fact that the former point guard doesn’t have any head coaching experience in the league, the Warriors feel he could be just what this team needs to turn things around. Continue Reading…
Over the last two years, NBA superstar Allen Iverson has had a tough time adjusting to the fact that he is no longer a dominant player in the league. After being traded from the Denver Nuggets for Chauncey Billups, Allen Iverson’s career in the NBA took a drastic turn for the worst. Continue Reading…
The Los Angeles Dodgers look like a doomed MLB franchise at this point in time as their payroll seems to be in danger due to owner Frank McCourt’s financial troubles and the future of the storied franchise is uncertain to say the least. There is no question this young team is filled with very talented players like Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and Clanton Kershaw, but they just can’t get back to form as of late with the squad seemingly ready to implode. The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants have played well in their title defense, but not well enough to hold of the best of the best in the National League this time around. Along with having some stiff competition within the NL this season like the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves, the defending champs are being given a run for their money within their own division.
The NL West division isn’t exactly one of the best divisions in baseball these days with almost every single team within the division still trying to build a winner, but at times teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks can play well in the MLB regular season.
This season the Rockies and the Diamondbacks look like the Giants biggest threats in the NL West division. The Giants have been solid at times and have shown flashes of a World Series title contender, but as of right now the Diamondbacks are in second place in NL West division and are red-hot with a legitimate shot of winning the NL West division title at season’s end.
One of the big-name players around the MLB that have been linked to the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants as of late has been superstar shortstop Jose Reyes. With the New York Mets seemingly going nowhere and the San Francisco Giants looking for another prime time player to bring to the Bay Area, Reyes would be the perfect fit and could be just what the offense needs to become amongst the best in baseball at the plate.
Whether or not the Giants decide to roll the dice and go after the Mets’ superstar remains to be seen, but they would be a drastically different ball club with a much better chance of contending for another World Series title in the years to come.
Last season the Minnesota Timberwolves had yet another year to forget as they just won a pitiful 17 games out of 82 and were dubbed the worst team in the NBA at season’s end. Despite finishing with just 17 wins, the T’Wolves did show signs of promise with undisputed leader and All-Star Kevin Love coming into his own. Continue Reading…
Last season the Philadelphia Eagles’ took a big chance of former superstar quarterback Michael Vick after starting quarterback Kevin Kolb went down in Week 1 against the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. There were plenty of people that doubted Vick’s ability to get back to dominant form, but he was able to do just that as he became arguably the most entertaining and explosive football player in the NFL once again.
With Vick getting back to form after serving time in jail, the former villain of the NFL became a superstar once again and made a lot of people forget about his past with his play on the gridiron. The next former star player that will be looking to do the exact same thing next season is former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
With Plaxico Burress soon to be released from prison, a lot of teams around the league in need of a wideout have been considering signing the one-time Super Bowl champion. Whether or not he can still perform at the same level remains to be seen, but with Michael Vick re-emerging as a superstar last season, Burress might benefit from his friend’s success.
Reportedly, one of the many teams that have some interest in acquiring Burress’s services next season is the Oakland Raiders. Last season was a breath of fresh air for the struggling storied franchise as they finished the season at 8-8 and became one of the best running teams in the league with running back Darren McFadden leading the way.
Now that the Raiders have established their running game for the future, they need to make their offense more versatile with a potent passing attack. With that being said, Oakland will be looking to give quarterback Jason Campbell a downfield threat with a wide receiver like Plaxico Burress.
