Over the last two years, NBA superstar Allen Iverson has had a tough time adjusting to the fact that he is no longer a dominant player in the league. After being traded from the Denver Nuggets for Chauncey Billups, Allen Iverson’s career in the NBA took a drastic turn for the worst.
During his short time with the Detroit Pistons, Iverson ruffled some feathers with his head coach and showed every other team around the league that he was no longer a team player. There were a lot of questions regarding the current Pistons coaching staff at that time and whether or not they were making the right moves, but ultimately the Detroit franchise went down the tubes once they traded away floor general Chauncey Billups.
After a disappointing stint with the Detroit Pistons, Allen Iverson tried his luck with his former team the Philadelphia 76ers. At first, the reunion seemed to be just what the doctor ordered for AI, but ended in disappointment yet again with a divorce with his wife and an inability to finish the season.
Once Iverson was done in Philly, no team wanted to touch him with a ten foot pole in any capacity, so the former NBA MVP took his game overseas to Turkey. With a somewhat lucrative deal, AI played for a team in Turkey, but the results were basically the same and an injured calf ended his season.
Now that Iverson’s deal with the Turkish team is over and calf is healed from surgery, the 36-year-old would like to give the NBA another shot as he has expressed his intentions to play again. Whether or not any team in the league is willing to take a chance on a personality and ego as big as the aging superstar’s remains to be seen, but he might be just what a team may need off the bench in order to contend for an NBA title.
