Would Dwight Howard be a good fit with the Chicago Bulls?

The speculation surrounding pending future free agent superstar Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic seems to grow every single day as more and more teams around the league show interest and the trade rumors run rampant. The reality of Dwight Howard actually becoming a free agent after next season is very real as the superstar might be able to avoid being traded before the NBA trade deadline, but the best option for the Orlando Magic will be to trade him before that time to avoid not getting anything in return for their best all-around player.

The frontrunner for Dwight Howard right now seems to be the Los Angeles Lakers as they have the talent to make a trade with All-Star caliber players like Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom at their disposal, but the most recent trade rumor involving Dwight Howard might be a better option.

There is no question that if the Los Angeles Lakers were able to pull the trigger on a trade to bring in the three-time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard they could potentially be right back on top in the Western Conference once again, but perhaps a more intriguing destination is the superstar center ending up in the Windy City instead.

The Chicago Bulls surprised everyone last season as they went from being one of the worst teams in the league to arguably the best team in the Eastern Conference. With point guard Derrick Rose transforming into the NBA MVP and his teammates around him coming into their own, the Bulls were a team on the rise and a potential NBA title contender.

With Dwight Howard in the fold alongside Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls could be the new version of the Los Angeles Lakers ten years ago with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. The problem for Chicago is that they would have to give up Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer, but getting Dwight Howard in return might be just what they need to get to the next level and win an NBA title.

I personally think that the Lakers ownership is not as attached to Dwight as everyone thinks, and that the Bulls would be able to get Dwight without giving up Noah, maybe just Boozer, Asik and some picks. Noah could play PF and we’d have Taj coming off the bench. Even if that’s not the case, the Bulls should be willing to give up Boozer, Noah, Bogans/Brewer, and some picks for Dwight. Orlando also wants to get rid of Arenas and Turkoglu, and if I were the Bulls, I would take Turkoglu and have he and Deng play SG and SF, doesnt really matter which one is called “SG”.
DRose, Turk, Deng, Taj & Howard could take on the Heat.

First off ANY DEAL for howard coming from the bulls will be centered around Noah and a 1st Rounder no questions asked. Then from there on would most likely be a combination of different guys Boozer/gibson, Deng/bogans, personally if im Orlando my return for DH12 is Noah/Gibson/Bogans/1st rounder IMO there looking to go young they wont want Deng his contract is more then they’d want to take, and in the playoffs they’ve seen how boozer plays poor defense. that trade would keep them young and still relatively competitive .

The bulls definetley should not trade deng he’s easily one of the more consistent sf in the league. I say derozan,x.Henry for brewer or korver…. or both. That positions empty for us atm.

I agree with Devonte, But if Orlando wants Noah and Taj. Still trade Boozer, he won’t fit that team. In my opinion he doesn’t fit the team now. I think If you can get Howard, Gay, Mayo, Turkoglu for Gibson, Noah, Waston, Korver, Deng, Brewer. the tempo get’s faster, more athletic defense and Boozer isn’t fast or athletic and he doesn’t play defensive at all. I’ll trade him to a team under the salary cap like the Raptors for Ed Davis. He fit the team better and the Cap Room would be more then enough to resign Rose and Howard the next season.

If Orlando would trade Dwight for Noah and Boozer, that is a no brainer, and I don’t think any deal is possible without Noah. But I doubt they want Boozer and probably want Deng and Gibson along with Noah, plus dumping off an ugly contract on us like Torkoglu or Arenas which would require more bench mob pieces to make the numbers work. Dwight is quite a prize, but to me that is quite a price and think the Bullies are better off focusing on a good 2 guard acquisition and getting Mirotic over here in 1-2 years rather than 3-4.

If you were Olando’s GM, what would you want from the Bulls in exchange for DH12?

At a minimum, I would tie-in Gilbert Arenas or turkoglu for any proposed trade. NBA rules require that there is a balance, so it would be something like Arenas and DH12 for Boozer and Noah, or Noah and Gibson, maybe Asik, and some picks.

went from one of the worst teams in the league… are you serious did you not see the 2009 and 2010 seasons..

  8. Devonte says:

Dwight Howard in Chicago for Noah,Asik, and Mirotic. Also Chicago should trade Bogut,Deng,Korver, and Watson to Memphis for R.Gay and O.J. Mayo. Then sign Ronnie Price and CJ Miles some of Boozer teammates. Those are real shooters who can help`em beat Miami in the playoffs.Chicago should sign Alexis Ajinca & Samuel Delambert as a backup Center for Dwight Howard.

  9. Chris says:

What about Bulls trading Omer Asik, Carlos Boozer, and a 1st round draft pick? The magic really don’t have any other talent that the Bulls would want. Omer Asik has a lot of potential and although not a full replacement for Dwight would at least help. Boozer would add some presence in the paint as well, and a first round pick would lower their cap space and provide future potential. The Bulls could move Taj Gibson into Boozer’s role, and Noah can play between power forward and center.
