Game 5: Rockets @ Thunder Weds. May 1, 2025 9:30 p.m. ET
Coming into the first round playoff series between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, the consensus was Oklahoma City would wipe the floor with Houston in four games.
The James Harden factor was considered to be a potential problem for the Thunder with the former Sixth Man of the Year knowing a lot about his former team, but that hasn’t been the case with the only game the Rockets have won Harden struggled all night long.
Houston was able to steal Game 4 at the Toyota Center with Chandler Parsons having arguably the best performance of his career and Carlos Delfino stepping up off the bench. Harden played awful and was basically a nonfactor in the win, but in the end it didn’t matter with the Rockets pulling out the win, 105-103.
In Game 5, the season will be on the line for the Rockets for a second straight game as Harden and company travel back to Oklahoma City. Although the Thunder are clearly the better all-around team even without the injured Russell Westbrook, the Rockets are a hungry team on the rise that has just tasted victory for the first time in the postseason with the revamped roster.
Heading into Game 5 at Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City will be motivated to avenge the loss in Game 4 while punching their ticket to the second round of the playoffs. Durant will likely have another big game as he attempts to lead the team to another win at home.
As of right now, the Thunder is favored to come out on top in this matchup with an -8 ½ point spread. Although Oklahoma City may ultimately get the win at home, it won’t be easy.
Prediction: Rockets +8 ½
