Metta World Peace Hints At Opting Into Contract With Los Angeles Lakers

The immediate future of the storied Los Angeles Lakers franchise is uncertain to say the least with a lot of uncertainty heading into the free agency period starting on July 1.

The main concern for the Lakers right now is whether or not superstar center Dwight Howard will re-sign with the team once officially a free agent. Dwight seems to be on the fence about returning to Los Angeles with a five-year deal with the team in July even though he stands to make $30 million more with the Lakers rather than any other team interested in his services.

The Houston Rockets are rumored to be the most interested team in terms of signing Dwight, but it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll put pen to paper.

As for Metta World Peace, the future is very uncertain with the Lakers considering using the amnesty clause on World Peace if the veteran forward decides to opt-in in the final year of his deal rather than declining the player option of $7.7 million.

On Tuesday, World Peace let it be known that he’ll be leaving the decision on what to do with his contract up to his agent. The consensus remains that World Peace will opt-in due to the fact he won’t make more elsewhere, but the Lakers may simply use the amnesty clause forcing the forward to hit waivers and enter free agency if unclaimed for the high price tag.

It appears the ball will be the Lakers’ court in terms of the immediate future for World Peace. The veteran forward may very well be on his way out of Los Angeles as a result with the team attempting to save money and cutting ties with World Peace potentially being an intriguing.
