The Los Angeles Clippers are coming off the best season in franchise history. The once lowly NBA franchise won a team-record 56 games during the regular season leading to the first Pacific Division title in the team’s history.
With the always competitive and usually dominant Los Angeles Lakers taking a backseat in the 2012-13 NBA season, the Clippers were able to take full advantage and punch their ticket to the playoffs with a division title. Although the Clippers would’ve been playoff bound regardless of whether or not they came out on top in the Pacific, Chris Paul and company made great progress this past season and seem to be a team on the rise in the NBA.
Despite the best season in franchise history, the Clippers have already made a drastic change to their team in the NBA off-season. Head coach Vinny Del Negro will not be returning to Los Angeles with the team unwilling to offer another contract to the former players turned head coach. Del Negro had been rumored to butt heads with Paul on numerous occasions, but it was unclear if the relationship was bad enough for the team to part ways with the head coach in favor of the superstar point guard.
Now it appears Paul wanted Del Negro out of town and the team’s front office had no problem in making that happen. With Paul single handedly turning the team around with his presence last season, the Clippers are willing to do everything within their power to convince him to re-sign in July.
Apparently, Del Negro is convinced that Paul pull the trigger on the team’s decision to not offer him another contract despite the incredible results of the season. Paul seems to be running the show and it’s hard to blame the team’s front office for listening with the results obviously in their favor.
