After being acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers via trade back on March 15, Ramon Sessions thought he found his new home in the City of Angels. The consensus was that the 26-year-old guard was the answer to the problems in the backcourt for the Lakers, but after a disappointing run in the NBA playoffs, Sessions became expendable.
After the Lakers failed to land Deron Williams, Los Angeles went with plan B and was able to pull off a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns in exchange for two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. This move was considered a game-changer for the Lakers and essentially pushed Sessions out of town sign with another team.
Even though the Dallas Mavericks looked like the best option for the up-and-comer point guard, Sessions ultimately decided to sign with the Charlotte Bobcats. Reportedly, Sessions has agreed to sign a two-year contract with the Bobcats that will be fully guaranteed.
Obviously, Sessions first choice in free agency was to sign with the Lakers where he’d be the starting point guard on a perennial NBA title contender, but the second option wasn’t as tempting with the Bobcats seemingly his best and possibly only option.
The details of the new deal between Sessions and Bobcats have yet to be released. Sessions will complete for the starting job with second-year guard Kemba Walker. There’s no guarantee that Sessions will become the starter or if the team has any intention of him being able to compete with the UConn standout.
One thing is for certain moving forward, Sessions is almost certainly regretting opting out of his contract with the Lakers. If he’d stayed in Los Angeles, the up-and-comer would’ve had the starting role and a chance to compete for a title while proving his worth to the team.
