The plot continues to thicken for Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks after the Houston Rockets officially had the up-and-coming point guard sign an offer sheet worth $30 million on Thursday. This move was expected by the Rockets after Houston traded Kyle Lowry to the Toronto Raptors and failed to come to terms with Goran Dragic who ultimately signed with the Phoenix Suns.
Now that the Rockets are desperately for a talented point guard, Lin has become a hot commodity in Houston and worth the asking price. There’s been much speculation over the eventually landing spot for Lin as many teams have expressed interest in signing the up-and-comer.
As for the Knicks, New York has let it be known that they intend to match any offer given to Lin. The boys from the Big Apple are desperately seeking a point guard that can come in and run the ship in the backcourt after the failed attempts of veterans Baron Davis and Mike Bibby last season.
Fortunately, the Knicks were able to sign future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd to the three-year deal in an effort to mentor Lin. The move to sign Kidd was an interesting one in terms of timing, but might ultimately be a step in the right direction in order to secure the point guard position moving forward.
At this point in time, the Knicks are determined to re-sign Lin after the former Harvard burst onto the scene last season. There have been reports that the Knicks will not be letting any team lure Lin away from New York with the team prepared to match any offer given.
It’ll be interesting to see how this bidding war goes between these two teams and whether or not the Knicks stick to their guns.
