After an impressive workout with the New Orleans Saints last week, future Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss has made quite the impression and turned a lot of heads around the NFL. The result of a successful workout with the Saints the veteran wideout traveled to the Bay Area to work out for the San Francisco 49ers.
Reportedly, this workout had head coach and former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh throwing passes to Randy Moss. Apparently, Harbaugh and the 49ers liked what they saw out of the veteran wide receiver as they have agreed to sign him to a one-year deal. Details of the deal with Moss have yet to be released by San Francisco.
Now quarterback Alex Smith will have a reliable wide receiver downfield alongside Michael Crabtree. Vernon Davis is quickly turning into one of the best tight ends in the game much like Jimmy Graham of the Saints, but the addition of Randy Moss to the 49ers’ offense will greatly improve San Francisco’s current offensive threats.
This is definitely a risk for the up-and-coming San Francisco 49ers and will be a big time payoff for the team on the rise in the NFC Conference if Randy Moss makes a seamless transition. Moss will most likely take a secondary role in the offense as the number two wideout. Davis will stay the best option through the air as he was the most consistent and seemed to come into his own last season under Harbaugh.
Obviously, with Randy Moss comes baggage and that might not be what head coach Jim Harbaugh wants heading into his second season for the 49ers. Regardless of the baggage, Moss is a serious upgrade to the offense if he is back to form. An inspired roll of the dice for this team and it might be just what they need to take the next step towards a Super Bowl appearance.
