Falcons @ Chargers Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 4:05 p.m. ET
After taking down Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, the Atlanta Falcons proved that Week 1’s dismantling of the Kansas City Chiefs was no fluke. Beating the Chiefs in convincing fashion (40-24) isn’t saying much, but the way Matt Ryan and his squad were able to fire on all cylinders was a sign they may have taken the next season to becoming a legitimate Super Bowl title contender.
As if the offense of the Falcons wasn’t impressive enough against the Broncos, picking off Manning three times was a huge step in the right direction for a defense that has been increasingly suspect and arguably the team’s Achilles heel.
In Week 3, the matchup against the AFC West opponents continues with the Falcons traveling to Qualcomm Stadium to take on the San Diego Chargers.
Even though the Chargers weren’t a very good football team last season as Philip Rivers and company struggled with their consistency, this season they’ve gotten off to a good start with two straight wins over the arch division rival Oakland Raiders (22-14) and Tennessee Titans (38-10).
Obviously, the Chargers have yet to face a formidable opponent and they’ll definitely have their work cut out for them against the Falcons on Sunday.
This game is shaping up to a battle of dominant offenses. It’s safe to say that the team with the football last in the fourth quarter might be the one to come out on top. As of right now, the Chargers are favored at home with a -3 point spread.
Despite home field advantage, I believe San Diego will be handed their first loss of the season as Atlanta will prove to be too much to handle.
Take the Falcons at +3.
