Baltimore Ravens at Philadelphia Eagles Thurs. Aug. 11, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
The 2011 NFL preseason will officially get underway with an intriguing matchup between two Super Bowl title contenders when the Baltimore Ravens travel to Philly to take on superstar quarterback Michael Vick and the revamped Philadelphia Eagles.
Coming into this game all eyes will be on the new-look Philadelphia Eagles and whether this team will be able to live up to the hype. No team in the NFL made more moves in the offseason to improve their squad on both sides of the football than the Philadelphia Eagles. As if it weren’t enough that the Eagles were one of the best all-around teams in the league last season, head coach Andy Reid and company set out to reach the next level by adding free agents Nnamdi Asomugha, Vince Young, Ronnie Brown and acquiring Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie via trade.
Every single move the Eagles made during this NFL free agent frenzy was a step in the right direction and gave Philly the kind of players on both sides of the football that could make the Eagles one of the most dynamic teams in the NFL. Whether or not these moves payoff and help the Eagles turn the corner remains to be seen, but they will be tested right out of the gate as they are set to face off against a very good Baltimore Ravens squad led by perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis and up-and-coming quarterback Joe Flacco.
Usually the NFL preseason is for rookies trying to adjust to the NFL level and veteran players trying to make an NFL roster. This time around things will be different as all 32 teams in the league will be looking to get all of their starters in on the action for an extended period of time to get them back into game shape.
With that being said, this could be the most entertaining preseason in NFL history!
