As one of the few teams in the NBA that have gone through some drastic changes this year, the Los Angeles Lakers have fared pretty well with a 10-8 record and a second place standing in the Pacific division. Despite playing better than anticipated without reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom or 11-time NBA champion head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers fans demand a championship caliber team and right now that is far from what Mike Brown has been able to put together in a short period of time.
There is no question that five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant is playing at an MVP level right now as he leads the league in scoring with 30.5 points per game. Despite Kobe turning back the clock and having the league buzzing about his resurgence, the Lakers have been awful on offense this season and after the loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night have failed to score 100 points in 11 straight games.
Coming into their matchup at Staples Center against the Pacers, the Lakers had lost two straight against the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic. These losses weren’t a complete shock as the Lakers have struggled on the road (1-6 record), but now the Lakeshow is starting to feel the effects at home.
On Sunday night, the Lakers were basically in control against the Pacers throughout the majority of the game, but then Indiana began to chip away at the lead and outscored Los Angeles in the final three quarters. Pacers’ center Rob Hibbert led the way for Indiana with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kobe Bryant did his best to lead the Lakers back with a game-high 33 points and eight rebounds of his own, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a younger and faster Pacers squad, 98-96.
The Los Angeles Lakers have now lost three in a row and have slipped to second place behind the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific division.
