NFL Preseason: New York Jets at Houston Texans

New York Jets at Houston Texans Mon. Aug. 15, 2011 8 p.m. EST

The last game of the first week of the NFL preseason could be the best one yet as the Super Bowl title contending New York Jets are set to take on the up-and-coming Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Coming into this Monday Night Football matchup, the Jets will be looking to show that they haven’t missed a step during the offseason and will be set on winning a Super Bowl title. The preseason doesn’t usually showcase the best football being played as the starters tend to get just one quarter of action, but head coach Rex Ryan might want to get his boys back in shape and ready for the regular season.

The biggest moves the New York Jets made for the upcoming NFL regular season was upgrading the wide receiver position. The Jets may have let Braylon Edwards sign with the San Francisco 49ers, but they have countered by signing veterans Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason. These two veterans could turn out to be a bust, but with both aging wideouts looking to win a Super Bowl before they retire, a second title in Burress’ case, the two players will be motivated and ready to go.

As for the Texans, the Houston NFL franchise is looking to finally get into the playoffs and possibly dethrone the Indianapolis Colts as perennial AFC South division champions.

Last season was an impressive one to say the least for the Houston Texans as they came just short of the playoffs and established a dominant running game thanks to up-and-coming running back Arian Foster.

Unfortunately, Foster will only be looking on from the sidelines in this Monday night showdown, but this should be an intriguing matchup regardless.
