Green Bay Packers at Cleveland Browns Sat. Aug. 13, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
The 2011 NFL preseason is officially underway with all 32 teams in the league getting back into action after an NFL lockout that went on much longer than anticipated. Despite the shortened training camp and the limited time new players and rookies have had to adjust to their surroundings, the games must go on and the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers will open their preseason against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
The biggest difference for the defending Super Bowl champions this season will be the overall health of the team. With injuries devastating the Packers on both sides of the football last season, Green Bay was thought to be out of the running in terms of contending for a Super Bowl title, but obviously they were able to pull through regardless and get the best of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the big game last February.
With the Green Bay Packers getting some key offensive players back healthy this season like running back Ryan Grant and tight end Jermichael Finley, the pressure will be taken off perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers to do virtually everything on the offense. Now that Rodgers can relax with more options at his disposal on offense, the Packers could be a scary sight this season and might be able to light up the scoreboard on a weekly basis with a relative ease.
The Cleveland Browns on the other hand will be looking to continue the development of second-year quarterback Colt McCoy and will hope that running back Peyton Hillis can have another Pro Bowl caliber season. McCoy might get some considerable time against the Packers defense to see if the youngster can hold up under that kind of pressure.
