Arizona Cardinals at Green Bay Packers Fri. Aug. 19, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers came into the first week of the NFL preseason with high hopes of getting back to their dominant ways on both sides of the football and seeing what their second team had to offer.
Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers were blindsided by a much improved Cleveland Browns squad led by up-and-coming quarterback Colt McCoy. With McCoy putting on a show for his new coaching staff, the defending champs took a backseat to the new and improved Browns, but they will have a chance to get back on track in Week 2 of the NFL preseason on their home field at Lambeau against the Arizona Cardinals.
Much like the Cleveland Browns, last season was a nightmare for the Arizona Cardinals as they couldn’t get things together offensively and were in desperate need of some new blood at the quarterback position. With that being said, the Cardinals number one goal before next season was to acquire a new quarterback and as a result they went out and traded for Michael Vick’s backup Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles.
The trade for Kolb went down with relative ease and now the Cardinals believe they have found the right man to finally replace Kurt Warner under center.
In his first preseason game with the Arizona Cardinals, Kevin Kolb threw for 67 yards on four out of seven passes that he completed. Kolb also rushed for 19 yards on two carries and helped the Arizona Cardinals get the 24-18 victory over the Oakland Raiders.
Now Kevin Kolb will face his first true test as the Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback going up against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Friday night.
