As arguably the worst team in the NBA over the past couple of decades, the Los Angeles Clippers have been just awful at making picks in the NBA Draft and pulling the trigger on trades for big-name players. Even though the Clippers will almost certainly miss the playoffs once again this season, this young team has seen some light at the end of the tunnel with the emergence of rookie phenom Blake Griffin and sharp shooter Eric Gordon.
Along with the Griffin and Gordon playing well this season, veteran point guard Baron Davis has been able to turn things around after being an expensive disappointment after signing a free agent deal a few years ago. With Griffin to pass to and Gordon to take on the scoring load, Davis has become relevant once again, but the resurgence didn’t last long as the Clippers took advantage of the veteran’s worth by trading him to the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers just before the NBA trade deadline.
In exchange for the former All-Star, the Clippers have received point guard Mo Williams and forward Jamario Moon. Along with getting Davis, the Cavs will also get a first-round draft pick in the next NBA Draft. NBA betting has been hit and miss with these guys this season.
This was an interesting move by the Los Angeles Clippers as no one saw this coming, but it may have ultimately been one of the best moves they have ever made as this gives the Clippers a lot more money to wheel and deal with over the next couple of years with Baron Davis’ huge contract off the books.
With the extra money, the Los Angeles Clippers could pursue some big-name free agents in the near future to play alongside Blake Griffin like Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Since the Clippers are finally relevant once again and seemingly on the rise, they might have a good chance of landing one of these big-names once they become available.
