The Cavaliers may have wanted to acquire Kyle Lowry but that was brief. As soon as the Houston Rockets decided to match their offer sheet for Lowry, the Rockets were able to keep Kyle Lowry on their team.
The offer that the Cavaliers signed to Lowry was a four-year deal worth $24 million Tuesday evening – apparently, it was a three-year deal with options in the fourth year. The Rockets had exactly one week to match this offer or just let Lowry head to an opposing team. Obviously, Houston decided to match the offer to keep Lowry in a Rockets’ jersey and it didn’t even take them an entire day to do so.
Originally, the Cavs were wanting to issue a sign-and-trade agreement for the fast and talented guard, but Houston had no intentions on participating in such an agreement. The Houston Rockets had every intention on matching any offer that was made for Lowry, as they know what a valuable asset he is to their team.
24-year-old Lowry recorded an average of 9.1 points and 4.5 assists last season with the Houston Rockets. Lowry was originally drafted by Memphis back in 2006. He is a true defender that is full of skill and energy when out on the court.
Now that Lowry is confirmed to stay with the Rockets, there is one string left hanging in the wind – Luis Scola. Scola is a highly skilled player of the Rockets so it is very likely that any offer that he is presented with, the Houston Rockets will match it to retain him as a player.
Let’s hope that the Rockets stay injury proof because they have a solid roster set into place and can definitely bring some game to the court this season.
