This past NBA regular season, the New Orleans Hornets had arguably their worst season in recent memory as they just couldn’t get anything going with any consistently and saw head coach Byron Scott get the boot and superstar point guard Chris Paul battle injuries all season long.
Not only were the New Orleans Hornets ravaged with injuries and going through a head coaching change this past season, but they also missed the playoffs and seemed to have little hope for the future moving forward.
Obviously, the Hornets still have arguably the best point guard in the league in Chris Paul, but recently trade rumors have started to float around New Orleans about Paul possibly headed elsewhere.
The two teams that seem most interested in acquiring Chris Paul are the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets. There is no question that both of these struggling NBA franchises are a superstar away from being a serious threat in the Western and Eastern Conferences, but whether or not they have the pieces to offer the Hornets in order for the to give up Paul remains to be seen.
The New Jersey Nets will be doing everything within their power to lure in big-name free agent LeBron James this summer, but without much of a supporting cast their chances of bringing in King James are slim to none. With Chris Paul in the mix though, the Nets could be considerable more attractive to LeBron, especially since the team will be moving to Brooklyn in the near future.
The Memphis Grizzlies do have some very talented young players to offer New Orleans in the form of O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol. Every one of these players are potential All-Stars moving forward, but the Grizzlies might be very hesitant to let them go.
At this point time, I really can’t see Chris Paul heading anywhere this summer, but with so much wheeling and dealing during this NBA offseason, anything is possible.
