After the NBA lockout officially ended and before the current NBA season got underway, the New Orleans Hornets were involved in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Clippers that drastically changed the struggling NBA franchise. Even though the Hornets were arguably one of the better teams in the league a few years ago, the team has slowly slipped into mediocrity and is no longer considered a threat in the Western Conference.
Not only did the Hornets trade away the face of the franchise and arguably one of the league’s elite point guards in Chris Paul to the Clippers, but they may have gotten some bad eggs in return. Shooting guard Eric Gordon was considered to be a rising star in the NBA last season with the Clippers and arguably the best player the Hornets received in return for Paul, but he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy and has a lot of people believing that this trade has turned out to be an absolute bust for New Orleans.
After undergoing surgery on his injured knee recently, Eric Gordon could be out for another six weeks for the New Orleans Hornets. This is obviously a bad sign for the ailing franchise and the Gordon. It seems that the shooting guard will be stuck with the injury prone tag for possibly the rest of his career in the league and might never reach his true potential as one of the best guards in the game.
Eric Gordon still has a lot of basketball left in him if he can get healthy and back on the basketball floor for the Hornets, but after declining the team’s contract extension New Orleans might part ways with the injury prone guard. That means Gordon could be struggling to land elsewhere next season with teams around the league seeing that he just can’t stay healthy.
