No team in the NFL caused more of an uproar after being knocked out of playoff contention this season than the New York Jets. There is no question that the Jets are one of the more outspoken teams in the NFL with head coach Rex Ryan making all sorts of guarantees and promises for this team every single season, but this time around it was the players making noise.
Apparently, there seemed to be a mutiny brewing with some players on the team going after quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Jets and head coach Rex Ryan have been behind Sanchez the entire time since acquiring him during the NFL draft a few years ago, but it would be hard to argue that he hasn’t progressed the way he should as the starting quarterback in New York.
With that being said, some Jets players have attacked Sanchez in terms of his work ethic and dedication to the team. One of the most open players about Sanchez has been former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
With Holmes being one of the players thought not to return next season, the Jets made a move that caught many people off-guard by keeping him for another year and paying him $15.25 million in money guaranteed to the veteran wide receiver. Holmes has been without a doubt the Jets’ best receiver over the last two years, but only recently become a problem in the locker room.
One of the reasons that the New York Jets may have kept Santonio Holmes for next season is the prospect of bringing in another veteran quarterback like Peyton Manning. There is no telling whether or not the Indianapolis Colts will cut him loose just yet, but if they do expect the New York Jets to be a very interested team.
