The Philadelphia Eagles may have dominated the headlines of the NFL offseason after the NFL lockout was over in terms of making trades and signing Pro Bowl caliber free agents, but the New York Jets did pretty well for themselves by adding some key veteran players that might be able to help this team finally reach the Super Bowl.
The one player that made the most impact on the Jets’ offseason and created a lot of buzz in the Big Apple was veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress. With quite a few teams interested in his services, Burress was a hot commodity in the NFL and would come at a cheap price due to the fact he is two years removed from the NFL and 34-years-old.
Despite getting some interest from teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots, the veteran wideout decided to sign with the New York Jets. With Braylon Edwards signing with the San Francisco 49ers, Plaxico Burress will most likely become the second option in the passing game behind former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
With that being said, Burress will have some pressure on him to succeed right out of the gate and strike up some chemistry with quarterback Mark Sanchez. Unfortunately, Burress hasn’t been able to get on the field in the preseason due to injury, but that will change this Sunday when the New York Jets take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
Reportedly, head coach Rex Ryan has said that Plaxico Burress will get a lot of time on the gridiron this Saturday to get the veteran wide receiver back to form and comfortable on the football field. This is a good move in my opinion as it will give Mark Sanchez and Plaxico Burress some time to get some chemistry going before the upcoming NFL regular season.
