The Plaxico Burress sweepstakes has officially begun as he has been released from prison and will be available to the highest bidder. Even though Burress has been in prison for the last two years and isn’t getting any younger at 33-years-old (34 in August), there are still a lot of teams around the league are very interested in the veteran wide receiver.
With the New York Giants saying they have no intention of bringing back Plaxico Burress, the rest of the league has taken notice and would love to add a veteran wideout to their roster. There have been plenty of teams like the Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams, Houston Texas and the Philadelphia Eagles that has shown interest, but perhaps his most likely destination could be back in New York with the Jets.
Now that Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards are free agents and have uncertain futures with the New York Jets, Rex Ryan and company could go after Plaxico Burress to become their downfield threat for quarterback Mark Sanchez. There is no telling what the New York Jets will do at this point to address their potential void at wide receiver, but with so many options at that position in free agency it might not be a major concern.
Even though Plaxico Burress will be a viable option at wide receiver for the New York Jets, the following wide receivers could also be available via trade and free agency: Randy Moss (Tennessee Titans), Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers), Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals), Terrell Owens (Cincinnati Bengals), Sidney Rice (Minnesota Vikings), Santonio Holmes (New York Jets), Braylon Edwards (New York Jets) and Steve Smith (New York Giants).
Personally, the best options for the New York Jets are re-signing Santonio Holmes and bringing in Randy Moss, but Plaxico Burress wouldn’t be a bad option.
