The Big Apple is known for controversy and media hype that can last for months and even years. Over the past few months, the only thing talked about in New York has been Linsanity and the New York Knicks. With Jeremy Lin coming from nowhere and sparking the Knicks after they were counted down and out, Lin became an instant superstar and the only thing people were talking about in the busiest city in the world.
With Linsanity finally dying down, the new topic in the Big Apple is football’s equivalent to Linsanity in Tebow Mania. Last season the hottest topic in the NFL and around the country for that matter was Tim Tebow’s rise to superstardom as being dubbed nothing more than a third string quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
Now that four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning has signed with the Denver Broncos for five years and $96 million, Tim Tebow became expendable and a huge trade asset. Almost immediately after signing Manning, the Broncos traded the third-year gunslinger to the New York Jets.
This move left a lot of people scratching their heads with the Jets just signing Mark Sanchez to a lengthy contract extension and dubbing the former USC standout as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Despite Sanchez being the main man under center, Tebow does bring some things to the table that the Jets might very well need moving forward. Unfortunately, head coach Rex Ryan came out recently and said that Sanchez wasn’t consulted about the Tebow trade. It is uncertain at this point whether or not he approves of the deal, but there will be a lot of pressure on the young kid to succeed or at least step up his game next season with Tebow on the sidelines willing, able and ready.
