Over the past few weeks the sports world has been talking about the NBA trade deadline and possible blockbuster moves that could happen in the NBA. Despite the NBA taking center stage, the NFL got in on the action as well with plenty of news to report around the league will a lot of player movement.
Obviously, the biggest news in the NFL over the past few weeks has been the Denver Broncos signing Peyton Manning and trading Tim Tebow to the New York Jets. Along with those huge moves, the league has also been buzzing about the severe penalty handed out to the New Orleans Saints for their bounty program. As a result, the NFL suspended head coach Sean Payton for the entire 2012-13 season.
These moves sent shockwaves through the NFL this month, but there has also been plenty of free agent signing around the league. With almost all the top free agent wide receivers off the table like Mario Manningham (San Francisco 49ers), Randy Moss (San Francisco 49ers) and Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints), there is one Pro Bowler at the wideout position that has been left unsigned up until this point in the NFL offseason.
That player is up-and-comer Mike Wallace of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The consensus was that the Steelers would quickly sign Wallace after the retirement of Hines Ward and being very thin at that position, but that hasn’t been the case.
Reportedly, three teams are currently very interested in landing the Pro Bowler. With tremendous talent and breakaway speed, Wallace would be an impact on any team and that has drawn the attention of the Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers.
In my opinion, the best fit would be with the Broncos. With Peyton Manning needing that go-to guy downfield like he has had all throughout his career with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, Mike Wallace would be the ideal choice in terms of signing another free agent wideout.
