All season long the consensus around the NFL has been that the Green Bay Packers are the team to beat and a second straight Super Bowl title is on the horizon for Aaron Rodgers and company. Even though the Packers haven’t been as good defensively this season, Green Bay has been unstoppable on offense with Rodgers having an MVP caliber season.
With all the attention on the Green Bay Packers this season, the New Orleans Saints have been able to fly relatively under the radar. Not only is Drew Brees having arguably his best season in the Big Easy after breaking Dan Marino’s passing record and leading the Saints to a 13-3 heading into the playoffs, but New Orleans might be a bit better than the defending Super Bowl champions and that could become apparent if the two teams meet in the playoffs.
Even though both teams tend to struggled defensively, the Saints and the Packers are top notch squads on offensively with plenty of talented players that have been able to get the job done week in and week out.
In the first round of the playoffs, the Green Bay Packers have the advantage of a first-round bye in which they will be given an extra week to heal up and get ready for the postseason. The New Orleans Saints on the other hand will have to get back to business right out of the gate as they will play host to the Detroit Lions on Sat. Jan. 7.
This matchup will be a perfect jump off point for the Saints in the playoffs as the Lions are a good team on both sides of the football and were able to take the Packers the distance last week. Detroit is still young and inexperienced though which leads me to believe that New Orleans will get the win and move closer to their goal of winning another Super Bowl title in the Drew Brees era.
