Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants Sun. Jan. 8, 2012 1 p.m. EST
The New York Giants will head into the NFL postseason after another rocky year that ended with a regular season finale victory over the arch division rival Dallas Cowboys. Despite barely getting into the playoffs, the Giants are playing pretty well right now with the Eli Manning and company firing on all cylinders on offense.
Even though the Giants are seemingly on top of their game right now, New York will have their work cut out for them in the first round of the playoffs as they will have to contend with Atlanta Falcons. With Matt Ryan and his boys playing at a high level, the Giants’ defense will have to be on their game on Sunday afternoon.
The one advantage the New York Giants do have in this NFC Wild Card game is the fact that this game will be played at MetLife Stadium. With home field advantage on their side, the Giants are the favorites heading into this matchup, but it would be hard to argue that the Falcons aren’t the better all-around football team.
The offense might make headlines in this playoff game with everyone expecting a high score, but the defense will dictate the outcome. The Falcons could struggle on the road against the Giants with the New York faithful screaming at the top of their lungs on Sunday, but Atlanta is without a doubt the top dogs heading into this NFC Wild Card showdown.
As of right now, the New York Giants are the favorites on Sunday with a -3 point spread. Even though the Giants are favored to come out on top, taking the Falcons would be the smart decision here.
