Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints Sat. Jan. 7, 2012 8 p.m. EST
Arguably the most anticipated matchup of the first round of the NFL playoffs will be the Detroit Lions heading to the Superdome to take on the red-hot New Orleans Saints. With the Saints playing like arguably the best team in the NFL and the Lions looking to keep this breakout season alive, the Big Easy will be booming with offense this Saturday as these two potent offenses will almost certainly light up the scoreboard all day long.
The one big question heading into this NFC Wild Card showdown will be whether or not any defense will be played. The Detroit Lions have arguably the better defensive squad with Ndamukong Suh leading the way, but last week they did get lit up by backup quarterback Matt Flynn (franchise record 6 TDs) and the Green Bay Packers.
With that being said, the Detroit Lions’ defense haven’t exactly impressed anyone lately and as a result they could be in big trouble this weekend going up against arguably the best offense in the NFL. Now that NFL MVP candidate Drew Brees and the Saints’ offense is firing on all cylinders, there is no team in the NFL that can stop them in my opinion as the Super Bowl could very well be on the horizon.
As of right now, the New Orleans Saints are heavily favored to advance to the next round of the NFL playoffs with a -11 point spread. Taking a spread as large as -11 in the playoffs doesn’t seem like a wise decision to me (even though the Saints are more than capable of covering) and because of that I believe that the Lions will make a game of it.
