Are the New Orleans Saints in trouble without Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas?

The NFL playoffs have officially begun and perhaps the one playoff game that everyone figured would be a blowout might have drastically changed as the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints have suffered some major losses at the running back positions.

Obviously, the New Orleans Saints are not a running football team and haven’t been since the emergence of perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees, but every offense needs at least the threat of a running game to make an offense fire on all cylinders.

The Saints may still have Reggie Bush available and ready to go against the Seahawks this weekend in Seattle, but everyone knows that Bush isn’t a dominant NFL running back and never will be. And with his injury prone ways in the pros, Bush won’t be getting many carries out of the backfield.

So with both running backs Chris Ivory (foot) and Pierre Thomas (ankle) being officially out for the season with their injuries, head coach Sean Payton will have to adjust his game plan for this weekend’s showdown with the Seattle Seahawks, but despite being without his best two running backs, the spread for this game has been relatively the same.

As of right now, the New Orleans Saints are favored to come out on top in this game with a huge point spread of -10.

Even though the New Orleans Saints will most likely struggle to get anything going in the ground game, they should shift all their efforts to the passing game which could result in a very big day for reigning Super Bowl MVP quarterback Drew Brees.

In the next round of the playoffs, the New Orleans Saints could be in some serious trouble against teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears or the Atlanta Falcons, but in the meantime they should make easy work of the lowly Seattle Seahawks.
