NFL Week 1: New Orleans Saints vs Green Bay Packers

New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers Thurs. Sept. 8, 2011

The NFL regular season will officially get underway this Thursday night when the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers play host to the Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field.

A lot of teams around the league made some drastic changes during the NFL offseason in order to contend with the best of the best this season, but the Packers and the Saints are two Super Bowl title contenders that were content the their current rosters. New Orleans did make one big change by trading running back Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins and drafting former Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram out of Alabama, but for the most part this team is basically the same squad as last season.

Even though the New Orleans Saints had high hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champions last season and many people around the league believed that they could do just that, Drew Brees and company were dominated by the lowly Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the playoffs and went home empty.

This season the Saints will be back with a vengeance as they try to get back on track as one of the league’s elite football teams. Despite the high expectations for this team this season, the Saints will be tested right out of the gate as they will have square off against the current Super Bowl champion Packers who are about as good as any team in the league on both sides of the football.

It is hard to say whether or not either one of these football teams will be able to get back into the playoffs and have a shot at winning another Super Bowl title, but there is no question that Thursday’s night showdown will be a great way to start the season with two of the best teams in the league going head-to-head.
