The New York Giants and the New York Jets are two NFL franchises that share the same stadium (New Meadowlands Stadium) and have a loyal fan following, but seem to be headed in different directions.
Back in 2008, Eli Manning and company were able to do the seemingly impossible by beating the 18-0 New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. No expected the Giants to pull offset arguably the biggest upset in Super Bowl history, but they did just that and the future looked bright for Tom Coughlin’s squad.
Unfortunately, things haven’t really panned out since that magical season in 2008 as the team has struggled over the past two seasons and may have become the worst team in one of the best divisions in the NFL in the NFC East.
The New York Jets on the other hand have gone in the complete opposite direction as they have really come on strong and become a legitimate Super Bowl title contender in just one season under new head coach Rex Ryan and up and coming quarterback Mark Sanchez.
The main reason for the Jets success last season was due to their dominance on the defensive side of the football. With Ryan’s defensive mindset and the team’s ability to do just enough on offense to get the team over the top, the Jets were able to get all the way to the AFC championship game, but ultimately lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Many online sportsbooks had the Colts as favorites.
Now the Jets will be heading into the 2010-2011 NFL season with high hopes of competing for a Super Bowl title and with their key additions on both sides of the football, they will have a good shot at doing just that.
Obviously, the first Monday Night Football game of the season will only showcase the starters for the first couple of series or so, but that might be enough to propel the Jets to victory as they are by far the better team this season.
One thing to watch for in this preseason game is the debuts of Jason Taylor, Santonio Holmes and most notably former NFL MVP running back LaDainian Tomlinson for the Gang Green. We have some great NFL football betting info throughout the site.
