Baltimore Ravens @ New York Jets Mon. Sept. 13th 7pm EST
Coming into the 2010 NFL regular season, the New York Jets will be tested right out of the gate as they are set to play the much improved Baltimore Ravens on Week 1.
This showdown between arguably two of the best defenses in the league will be taking place at the multi-billion dollar New Meadowlands Stadium where the Super Bowl title contending New York Jets will be looking to get off to a quick start against head coach Rex Ryan’s former team. This is a pretty close match up as noted by many online sportsbooks setting the odds at -2.5 in favor of the Jets.
Even though this game will be a battle of two great defenses, the Ravens and the Jets have both improved their rosters on the offensive side of the football this offseason.
Last season the Baltimore Ravens offense had a breakout year as running back Ray Rice became a Pro Bowler and quarterback Joe Flacco could be considered amongst the best in the league, but this season the Ravens will finally have that downfield threat in perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin.
As for the New York Jets, they have brought in former NFL MVP running back LaDainian Tomlinson and former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes to help second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez guide this offense to the Super Bowl.
Most people believe that the NFL season opener between Drew Brees’ New Orleans Saints and Brett Favre’s Minnesota Vikings will be the most entertaining matchup in Week 1, but the Jets and Ravens could end up ultimately being the best game of the first week of football.
Even though I believe the New York Jets will eventually be the better team later in the regular season, the season opener will go to the Baltimore Ravens as they are the more complete team as of right now. Even though this week’s NFL football betting has the Jet’s by 2.5, we think it could go either way and is open for lots of wagering options here.
