The Mont Blanc cable auto that joins Aiguille du Midi with Punta Helbronner that broke yesterday afternoon was fixed this morning and the remaining 33 of 100 trapped passengers were safely transported to Punta Helbronner.
Local officials said all of the 110 people who were trapped in cable cars 12,000 feet above mountainous terrain in eastern France were rescued early Friday.
An elderly man was treated for hypothermia but all the passengers trapped overnight in the small, four-person pods were in good condition despite their ordeal, police said. 'By the volume of people to rescue - we rarely rescue 110 people at the same time in high mountain - and by the environment in which it happens.in the heart of one of the largest glaciers in Europe, over a distance of five kilometers of cable with 36 cabins'.
The remaining 33 people trapped overnight in cable cars over Europe's highest mountain brought to safety, the ride's operator says.
La Compagnie du Mont Blanc, which runs the cable vehicle, said in a statement that, while the cables can become tangled after an abrupt halt to the system or in strong winds, it was not clear what caused the issue on Thursday.
The cable vehicle, which offers spectacular up-close views of Western Europe's tallest mountains and deep valleys below, connects the Aiguille de Midi peak in France, at 3,842 meters (12,605 feet), to Pointe Helbronner in Italy, at 3,462 meters (11,358 feet). The crews then had to strap themselves to passengers and rescue them one by one - something Labrunye described as "air surgery".
Senior Syrian rebel leader 'killed' near Aleppo
The group in reaction, stated in it's newspaper Al-naba, that his death would not harm it, and his killers would face torment. Abu Omar Saraqib of the Syria Conquest Front was killed in an air raid on the outskirts of Aleppo late Thursday, rebels said.
French mountaineering specialists did manage to bring two-thirds of the passengers to the ground. Children aged seven and nine from South Korea and a 10-year-old from Italy were among those stranded.
Most people were evacuated from the cars via helicopter and by a rescue team yesterday, but 33 people were left overnight because the chopper couldn't operate in the dark.
So they switched to "Plan B", Fournier said.
An EC-135 helicopter going to rescue passengers trapped in stalled cable cars in Mont Blanc. "It was just before midnight when they finally belayed us out of the gondolas which was really quite an experience". The three-mile (5km) journey usually takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Another series of cable cars takes skiers and visitors to the peak of the Aiguille du Midi year-round.
The Vallée Blanche cable auto runs during the summer season, when large numbers of climbers and tourists flock to the area.
