Replay: Updates, stats from Tuesday night's Royals-Twins game

09 September 2025

Minnesota Twins' Brian Dozier watches his lead-off home run off Kansas City Royals pitcher Dillon Gee during the first inning of a baseball game Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, in Minneapolis. Gee's bounced in and out of the rotation, tossing a scoreless inning last week after giving up one earned run over six innings in his last start (against the Yankees). Danny Duffy struck out 10 batters without a walk over six innings, but the bullpen cost Kansas City an opportunity to creep forward in the AL wild-card race.

Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando started the game with singles, but both of them were picked off first base with a quick throw by the right-handed Gibson, who had only six pickoffs in 93 previous major league starts.

TIGERS 5, WHITE SOX 3: Justin Upton hit a three-run home run in the 11th inning to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Monday for their 11th win in 14 games.

Morales had two home runs, including a three-run blast in Kansas City's seven-run ninth inning that propelled the Royals to a 10-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. This is partly due to the fact that Dozier is notoriously streaky and can disappear for months at a time, and partly due to the fact that he's stuck playing in baseball wilderness with the Minnesota Twins.

The lead was short lived, however, as Minnesota blasted a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.

"(Dozier) didn't homer, but he created a run for us with a good at-bat. It stayed four games behind Baltimore, which holds the second spot.

The Golden State Warriors point guard on Tuesday night met with fans and the media in Taipei as part of his Asian tour. Later, a Taiwanese celebrity reportedly asked for a replay of the last five seconds of the game.

Brian Dozier hit his 39th home run of the season for the Twins, moving him into a tie with Rogers Hornsby (twice) and Alfonso Soriano for fourth-most home runs by a second baseman in a season.

"We had a chance to pick up ground", manager Ned Yost said.

Anthony Rizzo hit two home runs and Miguel Montero added one for the Cubs. It was Dozier's 76th extra-base hit of the season, which already puts him in second place in Twins history, with Tony Oliva's 84 in 1964 atop the list. Former Twins Drew Butera and Kendrys Morales went deep for the Royals.

Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe was diagnosed with a strain of the intercostal and oblique muscles on his left side, his third injury this year to that area including a broken rib.

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez has only a bruise on his right wrist after getting hit by a pitch. He could try to return for the final week of games but is likely to miss the remainder of the season. Gee was 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA in five August starts and pitched an inning of relief Friday. Joakim Soria blew another lead, and the Royals fell to Minnesota, 6-5, on Wednesday night.
