It’s gut-check time for Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles, but it’s also put up or shut up for Bob Stoops’ Oklahoma Sooners. Both teams have huge potential, and all that remains to be seen is how they’ll use it.
Florida State certainly had the easier game last week, blasting Samford 59-6, while Oklahoma had to hang on to beat Utah State 31-24 for the 800th win in the history of the program. But that was just a warm-up. Oklahoma in particular is going to need to execute better to maintain their number ten ranking and bring the home crowd a win. Continue Reading…
On just the second week of the season, Penn State is going to try to get the lion in its den. They’re going to bring a true freshman quarterback, Rob Bolden, into one of the loudest stadiums in college football and hope he can keep it together well enough to give his team a fighting chance. That’s about all Penn State fans can hope for when the Nittany Lions square off against the Crimson Tide Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. Continue Reading…
The NL Wild Card picture is much more complex than that of the American League. Here we have many possibilities, and we probably won’t know how it all shakes out until the last day of the season. However, we can make some educated guesses as to who’s most likely to be atop the standings when the dust settles.
There are several teams who could be on top by season’s end: San Francisco, Atlanta, Colorado, Philadelphia or San Diego.
The Padres, once cruising atop the NL West by seven games, have fallen to a mere one game lead over the Giants. Continue Reading…
This year’s American League Wild Card race looks to be anti-climactic, barring an unmitigated disaster occurring for one of the division leaders. What was once a group of very tight races all the way around, the league has lessened to only two.
The East has the most bearing on the Wild Card. Tampa Bay continues to dog the Yankees’ every move and is now only a game behind. They are also ahead by seven games in the Wild Card standings, which is a nearly insurmountable climb for either the White Sox or Red Sox, their two closest competitors. Though it appeared as if the Bluejays may have a mid-season resurgence, this didn’t happen. Similarly, Detroit and Oakland have fallen back below 500. Continue Reading…
Baltimore Ravens @ New York Jets Mon. Sept. 13th 7pm EST
Coming into the 2010 NFL regular season, the New York Jets will be tested right out of the gate as they are set to play the much improved Baltimore Ravens on Week 1.
This showdown between arguably two of the best defenses in the league will be taking place at the multi-billion dollar New Meadowlands Stadium where the Super Bowl title contending New York Jets will be looking to get off to a quick start against head coach Rex Ryan’s former team. This is a pretty close match up as noted by many online sportsbooks setting the odds at -2.5 in favor of the Jets. Continue Reading…
Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins Sun. Sept. 12th 8:20pm EST
There is no question that the Dallas Cowboys will be legitimate Super Bowl title contenders heading into the 2010 NFL regular season, but they will be tested out of the gate as they will face off against the NFC East division rival Washington Redskins led by two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Mike Shanahan.
In week 1, they are odds favorites to beat the Skins with the Cowboys spread set at -3.5 by leading online sportsbooks. Continue Reading…
Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles Sun. Sept. 12th 4:15pm EST
Last season the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles fell just short in the playoffs as Aaron Rodgers and company were beaten in overtime against the Arizona Cardinals and Andy Reid’s squad was dominated by the Dallas Cowboys.
Fortunately, even though they didn’t get far in the playoffs last season, this year both of these teams have high hopes of making something happen as the Packers have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL and the Eagles will be ushering in a new era of football with quarterback Kevin Kolb under center. MLB Match-up: Florida Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have truly seen some recent success and are now back at the top of the NL East division. They haven’t been in the top spot in over three months. Tuesday’s win over the Marlins with a final score of 8-7 moved them up to the first position and past the Atlanta Braves to lead the division – even if it’s just a half a game!
But, what’s going to keep them there? Continue Reading…
The Atlanta Braves are currently on the verge of a sweep – but not a good one, an upsetting one! Wednesday, the Braves will play the Pittsburgh Pirates for the final game in the series and will attempt their first sweep of the Pirates tomorrow in 16 years. This three-game series sweep came in 1994.
One good thing for the Braves going into the finale is that they will have Derek Lowe back. He had discomfort in his elbow and missed his last start but he is currently 9-0 against Pirates for his career. Lowe has been out since August 29 without pitching. Continue Reading…
Cincinnati Bengals @ New England Patriots Sun. Sept. 12th 1pm EST
With a much improved offense, the Cincinnati Bengals will be heading into the 2010 NFL season with high hopes of repeating as AFC North division champs and possible contending for a Super Bowl title, but they will definitely have their work cut out for them in the AFC Conference as teams like the New England Patriots will be looking to reclaim their dominance in the conference. The odds for this matchup are set at 4.5 in favor of the Patriots by two of the leading online sportsbooks; Bodog and Bookmaker.
Obviously, the addition of perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Terrell Owens alongside another Pro Bowl wideout in Chad Ochocinco is a huge upgrade for quarterback Carson Palmer and the Bengals offense, but with two explosive personalities on the gridiron this new superstar offense could quickly implode and do more harm than good.
