Eric Belanger, a free agent center, signed with the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday. Sources confirm that the deal is a one-year contract worth $750,000.
32-year-old Belanger is a nine-year veteran and played with the Minnesota Wild last season prior to the Washington Capitals acquiring him at trade deadline. The Coyotes make Belanger sixth team in his NHL career. He will join the Coyotes this season and leave behind Minnesota, Washington, Atlanta, Carolina and Los Angeles. Continue Reading…

The Dallas Cowboys got a huge wakeup call in Week 1 when they fell at the hands of Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins in an NFC East division showdown 13-7, but in Week 2 they will be looking to bounce against the Chicago Bears.
The odds on this match-up show the Cowboys at -8.5 by leading online sportsbooks, but that may go down a bit by this weekend. Continue Reading…

This Saturday the Alabama Crimson Tide, defending National champion, face-off against Duke and it looks like the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will be able to play with the team. Mark Ingram previously had knee surgery and was on the field practicing on Monday, just two weeks following that surgery.
Of course, Ingram won’t be full force in practice or in the game on Saturday or the next couple games for that matter as he’ll have game limitations so that he can get back into the game slowly but surely so as to not harm his surgically repaired knee.
Last week, Ingram participated in limited practice sessions but was unable to participate in the game against Penn State when Alabama claimed a victory of 24-3. In Ingram’s place on the field, Trent Robertson has held up a good play. He scored three touchdowns and successfully caught seven passes for a total of 92 yards in the last two games – Penn State and San Jose State. He didn’t play much in the game against San Jose State but proved himself to be worthy of his back-up position, and worthy of a starting position when he played against Penn State. A starting position could possibly be likely if Ingram wasn’t returning this year, but as of right now, he’s coming back and don’t think for a second that Robertson is completely disappointed. He’s content with his back-up position – he knows there will be plenty of playing time for him even after Ingram returns to the team and to the field.
As previously stated, Ingram will likely get limited playtime this coming week but Alabama’s Coach is ultimately hoping to keep Ingram resting as much as possible so that his knee has plenty of time to heal properly so that he can participate in the team’s SEC opener on September 25 at Arkansas. So, until then, we’ll see a lot of playing time for Trent Robertson, who will go back to being Ingram’s back-up once Ingram is healthy and ready to get back out on the field and play some ball.
Right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are without one of their leading quarterbacks, Ben Roethlisberger, due to a violation of the league’s policy and will be missing three more weeks, which is a reduction to the initial six-game suspension he was served and would have caused him to miss five more weeks. Now, the Steelers will be without Max Starks, the team’s starting left tackle, for about the same amount of time.
After Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, Starks suffered an injury to his ankle during the third quarter of the game. One good thing about the game, which led into overtime, was that the Steelers claimed the win with a total score of 15-9. The injury occurred when one of the players from the opposing team fell onto Starks’ right leg, at which time, Jonathan Scott, a fifth-year veteran, replaced Starks on the field.
Immediately following the game, Starks was wearing a protective boot on his right foot. He was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which will likely keep him out for about four weeks or so. If it heals quickly, he’ll be able to rejoin the team sooner but he is going to do whatever it takes and whatever he is told to ensure that his ankle heals properly yet quickly so that he can get back on the field and help the team to another victory.
With Starks out for the next few weeks, who will the Steelers put in his place? Will they use Jonathan Scott or will they consider moving a right tackle to left tackle (Flozell Adams)? We’ll see this coming Sunday, September 19, when the Steelers go up against the Tennessee Titans on the Titans turf.
It seems as if a lot of ex-Dolphins football players from linebackers and now quarterbacks are signing elsewhere from the Miami Dolphins. But this time, this quarterback is headed for a completely different league – not only a different team but a totally different sport.
Friday, the Kansas City Royals made an official announcement that former Dolphins quarterback Pat White has signed with them. That’s right – a former Dolphins player is headed to the Minor Leagues of baseball and leaving his “so-called” football career behind – signing a Minor League contract with the Royals. During Wednesday’s practice for the Buffalo Bills, veteran LB Kawika Mitchell sustained an injury to his foot. While he is not the greatest linebacker on the team or in the NFL, he is going to be missed by the Bills since he has now been placed on injured reserve, which will end his NFL season this year.
The 30-year-old was limited to only five games last season due to an injury to his quadricep so this second straight missed season is a huge blow to his ego. He missed the last 11 games of last season due to a knee injury and was a backup to Andra Davis. As of right now, the Bills are uncertain whether or not Mitchell will need to undergo surgery. Friday night begins a three-game series between the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox on Chicago’s homeland turf after a 10-game trip. The White Sox are debuting Manny Ramirez Friday evening who is hoping that he can get out of a hitless run while getting Chicago out of their rut – a three game losing streak. However, Kansas City seems to be stuck in the same losing streak at this time.
For the Kansas City Royals, the starting pitcher will be left-handed Bruce Chen who is currently 9-7 with an earned run average of 4.89. Against Chicago, Chen is 0-3 with an earned run average of 5.49 in four starts. Continue Reading…
Atlanta Falcons @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Sept. 12th 1pm EST
Last season the Pittsburgh Steelers came into the year as the defending Super Bowl champions and extremely confident they could repeat as they had relatively the same team intact, but despite having confidence in their title defense, a knee injury to superstar safety Troy Polamalu was enough to bring everything crashing down.
Starting off the season as underdogs, the Steelers are -2 as set by the odds of BetUs, one of the leading USA online sportsbooks on the Web. Continue Reading…
