Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants Sun. Sept. 12th 1pm EST

Heading into the 2010 NFL regular season, the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers will be two struggling franchises trying to get back to prominent status in the NFL.

Even though it was just a few years ago that the Eli Manning and company were crowned Super Bowl champs, the Giants have really struggled to get back to form as of late as their offense and defense have gotten progressively worse with every passing season. Even with these struggles, the online sportsbooks have the Giants as 7 point favorites (-7) in this week 1 matchup with the Panthers. Continue Reading…

NFL Week 1: Raiders @ Titans Odds and Predictions

Oakland Raiders @ Tennessee Titans Sun. Sept. 12th 1pm EST

Coming into the NFL regular season, the Oakland Raiders will be looking to finally get back into playoff contention in the AFC Conference, but they will have their work cut out for them in Week 1 against the up and coming Tennessee Titans.

As of today, the Raiders are 6 point underdogs according to the top online sportsbooks like Bookmaker.

Not only were the Tennessee Titans very impressive in the second half of the season last year after losing six straight games, but they saw arguably the best running back in the game emerge in Chris Johnson. With 2,006 rushing yards to his credit Johnson was on the verge of breaking some all-time records, but he fell just short.

This season the Pro Bowl running back will be aiming for 2,500 rushing yards and the NFL MVP as he tries to lead the Tennessee Titans back into the playoffs. Continue Reading…

Former Cardinals’ Matt Leinart Joins Houston Texans

Quarterback Matt Leinart, former QB of the Arizona Cardinals, has now signed with the Houston Texans for one year. Many media sources claim that the Houston Texans were the first team to contact Leinart following his release from the Cardinals.

Leinart, the 2004 winner of the Heisman Trophy, was originally released and placed on waivers a couple days ago on Saturday by the Arizona Cardinals when he was defeated for the starting position and as the successor of Kurt Warner, who is now retired. He didn’t perform well during the Cardinals pre-season and Leinart claims that he had problems with the Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Cardinals drafted Leinart out of the 2006 NFL Draft in the first round as the 10th overall draft selection.

With the Texans, Leinart has the possibility of gaining a position as backup to Matt Schaub. He’ll compete with Dan Orlovsky for this position provided that he can come in and quickly learn the offense of Gary Kubiak. In the preseason this year, the Texans didn’t see much of a great performance by their backups – Orlovsky didn’t perform well in the Houston Texans final pre-season game and the Texans decided to release John David Booty. Therefore, Leinart will be in a good position to take the backup position if he learns quickly and perform well. For now, though, at the time of his signing, he’ll be third string.

The 27-year-old quarterback finished his career with the Arizona Cardinals 14 touchdowns as well as 20 interceptions and 6 fumbles in his 29 appearances. He also completed 340 of 595 attempted passes for a total of 3,893 yards.

Wednesday will be the first time that Leinart with practice with the Texans at which time they will begin preparing for their regular season opener on Sunday, September 12, at Reliant Stadium against the Indianapolis Colts.

Alex Rodriguez Back in New York Yankees Lineup

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is now back in the lineup for the New York Yankees after missing three weeks of playing a complete game – his last complete game played was on August 15. His first full game back will be Sunday with the Yankees going up against the Toronto Blue Jays.

He is scheduled to bat cleanup in fourth position for this game but that’s given since he just came off of the disabled list due to a strained left calf. As for his A-Rod’s injury, it occurred on August 16 against Detroit and it caused him to leave the game with only two at-bats. Continue Reading…

NHL Approves 15-Year Contract Between New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk

After several attempts and two long drama-filled months, the National Hockey League has finally approved a long-term contract, which was submitted to the NHL on August 27, between the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk on Friday. The revised contract is for 15 years and is worth a total of $100 million. The NHL had previously rejected a contract between the Devils and 27-year-old Kovalchuk for 17 years and $102 million but there were issues about lowering the cap hit at the end of those previous attempted contracts - $8.9 million for 11 years then $750,000 for the 12th year and $500,000 for the final five years, which resulted in the cap hit lowering to about $6 million Continue Reading…

NFL Reduces Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger Suspension to Four Games

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the Pittsburgh Steelers was put on a six-game suspension by the NFL earlier this year due to the violation of the league’s policy regarding personal conduct. He was allegedly accused by a 20-year-old college student attending college in Georgia of sexual assault in March; however, he was never once arrested or charged with anything in relation to the alleged incident.

Commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell placed the quarterback on a six-game suspension once the league started back. He could participate in pre-season games and practices but would be ineligible for regular season games until his suspension was up. Continue Reading…

2010 NFL Season Preview: NFC

NFC South: New Orleans Saints (13-3)

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints were destined to be the league’s best team last year, but even though they are the champs coming into this season, not many people are giving them a chance to pull off the repeat as the consensus is that the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings are better all around teams. Although there are some very close odds in this Division, we can see the online sportsbooks logic in putting the Saints at +375, which makes them the front runner in the NFC. Continue Reading…

2010 NFL Season Preview: AFC

AFC South: Indianapolis Colts (14-2)

Last season the Indianapolis Colts were arguably the best team in the league during the regular season as they won 14 straight games and basically conceded the last two games of the regular season in order to keep four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning and perennial Pro Bowl wideout Reggie Wayne healthy for the playoffs.

Even though the Colts lost to the Saints in the Super Bowl, most people believe the Sean Payton and company got lucky against Jim Caldwell’s squad and this season Indianapolis will look to prove it. We like the odds by the latest online sportsbooks that show the Colts at -400 to win the AFC. Continue Reading…
